The quality of Riesling is growing in Australia with a lot of the top winemakers really getting behind the variety. This wine comes from the Mt Barker area in Western Australia which experiences warm dry days in summer with cold and wet winters.

Forest Hill Vineyards Block 8 Chardonnay 2008

Forest Hill Vineyards is situated in the coldest area in Western Australia. They also possess the some of oldest vines in Western Australia. Two big ticks from me.  On a separate note, this is made with a wild ferment in french oak barrels.  There are a few natural winemakers in Australia making brilliant wines that have decided not to advertise that they are non-interventionist. I wonder why? 

Forest Hill Vineyards Block 8 Chardonnay 2008

This wine is so reserved that it is scary when evaluating the lithe liquid that dwells within the bottle.  The wine is seamless in the delivery of pristine flavours of grapefruit, peach and spice.  As you sit with it, the acidity rocks to the beat of its own drum.  The wine is a little too lean at the moment for full enjoyment but you can feel that it will unfold dramatically if you give it a little time.  Given the price it is a bit of a steal.
