Waywood Wines Cabernet Franc 2009

Andrew Wood used to work at Gemtree and Kangarilla Road before he started his own thing in 2007.   Andrew has focused on everything with a bit of Spanish, French, Italian and Australian thrown in. The two questions that I had after tasting this wine was...one does Cabernet Franc fit with McLaren Vale and two if it does why wouldn't it be blended with something.

This wine has lovely aromatics with aromas of flowers lightly dusted in blackcurrant specks and fine spice.  Whilst these aromas are very inviting they do not transfer over to the palate. In fact this is the typical Cabernet Franc in that it would have added something to a blend but didn't do well by itself. While the flavour lets this wine down the tannins are nice and fluffy as they roll over my tongue. That said it is not that expensive so it could be forgiven.
