Ocean Eight Pinot Gris 2012

There are not too many Pinot Gris wines that take my fancy and I have had two of them in the last few weeks. This wine along with the Stefano Lubiana Gris 2012, are the best I have tried from this country. The Ocean 8 is produced in the Mornington Peninsula by Michael Aylward of Kooyong fame. He crafts four wines from his 32 acres of vines that were planted while he started Kooyong.

This Gris has texture to burn baby. Once open the wine is more about mouthfeel and creaminess than it is about the flavours. That said the flavours are in the typical end of the spectrum for the variety. The level of sweetness in the wine is finely balanced by mouth watering acidity on the back palate, with the length sitting at the brilliant end of the spectrum. Yum and would work perfectly with any Asian style dish.
