Mount Mary Quintet 2008

This wine spent 22 months in large format (1500l) and barriques (225l) barrels of which 30 of the barriques were new.  In an age where a lot of people are putting more wine into 100% new oak it is a brilliant move to keep things simple.  I think it allows the wine to speak more clearly of its origins.  Less is more!

Mount Mary Quintet 2008

I must admit that I'm a fan of Mount Mary as their style of wine and its cellar-ability are right in my mold.  As a young wine this is not going to bowl anyone over but as an older wine watch out.  There is a blackcurrant, red berry and smokey influence running through the core of the wine which fans out onto chocolatey tannins.  While the wine never moves into full bodied territory you are left feeling that you would never want anything more than what it is.
