Tyrrell's 4 Acres Shiraz 2011

The grapes for this wine come from a block planted in 1879 and once they are hand picked, they are pressed into 2700 l and 1500 l French oak casks. The soil structure of this vineyard is volcanic red clay which allows for a little water retention, making this a perfect place for quality wine production during periods of extended heat. During 2011 there wasn't such conditions, rather extended periods of rain but considering Tyrrell's only release these wines if they think the quality is far above that of their normal Brokenback label, I feel confident that this wine will shine.

Does the word exotic mean anything? Oh baby this is so seductive in its approach and was the wine that I just kept on wanting to come back to. This is a light bodied temptress of a wine with flavours of exotic Indian spice, raspberries, violets with a belly dancer of struck quatz dazzling my olfactory senses. Definitely for a wine of this weight it packs a punch but not in the way I would expect.  The vibrancy of this wine is almost uncontrollable as the feel of the wine jumps out of the glass and then you mix that with some of the most unique flavour I have ever come across and you have an inkling of what this wine brings to the table. To be honest I have been having a great run with the samples that have been delivered and this was one of the highlights.
