De Bortoli Deen Vat 8 Shiraz 2009

I’m tasting my way through the De Bortoli range and I’ve come to this conclusion. The windy peak range is brilliant for everyday quaffers, the Vat range offers good to great value, the estate range takes it up a level and the La Boheme range is the one that offers beautiful value and top class interesting wines to boot.

De Bortoli Deen Vat 8 Shiraz 2009

This is not bad for a cheap wine as it is soft with sweetness running through the heart of the wine. The medium bodied flavours are of plums, tart raspberries and cracked pepper sit on top of a sweet buoyant mid-palate. The tannins are only mild and don’t really add much to the appeal of the wine so think that the flavours are what it is all about. While these flavours are nice there is a mild alcohol heat towards the back of the palate.
