Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino De Montefalco Collepiano 2004

The winery has to be concidered one of the top producers from Umbria as they are heavily into research yet maintain such a close link to the heritage of the land. If you have never had a Sagrantino you need to seek it out!

Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino De MonteFalco Collepiano 2004

This wine deserves a good spanking because it is that dirty, well more like red dry clay than anything else. It is so tight that over the 8 days it showed sage, coco beans, exotic spices, rose petals, and plum skin.  What is beguiling about the wine is the tannin structure, it coates each and every taste bud. For me this is a bench mark Sagrantino and needs 20 years wine min. That said this is the second wine from the label so I would hate to see the top example.
