Mayhem & Co. Bells & Whistles Chardonnay 2009

Mayhem & Co are pushing the winemaking arena with their none interventionist approach.  This Chardonnay sees 90% brand new French oak for 16 months, which i think is a little too high for this wine as the fruit never competed against such fire power.  Would i buy this wine... yes because the packaging alone is so sexy.

Some people are going to like this a whole lot more than me due to the huge amount of sweet vanillan oak that is smothering the fruit. Infact over the time that i was looking at it, the only flavours that i tasted were pineapple juice mixed with vanilla custard tart. There is a nice core of acidity coming through but eventually i decided that there was too much oak. It's everything that Chardonnay used to be.
