Oliver's Taranga Shiraz 2008

The Vales experienced a very hot growing season in 2008 which was punctuated with extreme spikes of heat, this results in wines that are fruit forward and ready to drink from release.  However, the Oliver's Taranga vineyards is managed by one of the best vignerons in the district and the only vineyard in the Vales to supply fruit to Grange in 2011.

Oliver's Taranga Shiraz 2008

You can feel the extra sun that these grapes experienced before they were picked as the wine comes across as more open and accessible than is normal for this label. There is a nice smoked blackberry component mixed with Dutch licorice, leather and chocolate icing that smothers my tongue leaving it dry and silky.  The perfectly ripe tannins kick in underneath adding texture but something holds me back from saying that this needs time in the cellar.  I would be consuming this while I wait for my 06s to mature.
