Rockford Basket Press 1998 Winemakers Release

Rockfords holds a special place in many peoples hearts for a couple reasons.  The first must be that they have inspired so many younger people to value the old vines and history of the Barossa. Whilst the second reason might be that they produce one of the best Barossa wines each year yet their prices stay relatively low compared to other players in the region.  Recently I have been thinking that the basket press Shiraz doesn't show that well on release but tasting this wine, I'm thinking that they are built to show well as a teenager.

Rockford Basket Press 1998 Winemakers Release

The wine is very relaxed and open so I would say you can drink these whenever it pleases you. There is a huge amount of muscle in this wine as the flavours of leather, cherry jam and spicy earth layer themselves over my tongue. Seriously they are putting down roots or making a camping site and building a fire because they are staying for the night. This wine has an effortless swagger about it that delights the taste buds and invigorates the senses. In the end I'm left with a traditional chocolatey after taste so I'm reminded that this is a  Barossa wine in fine form.
