Michael Hall Flaxman Syrah 2009
Notes of fresh blackberries and blueberries with cracked pepper slowly evolve from the glass after an hour. You really need big glassware to let this wine show its best, and when you do the joys of caramel chocolates, sarsaparilla and fresh herbs emerge. The wine shouted complexity and intelligence at me over the 4 days that I had the open. The fine tannin structure lurks underneath and the dryness beautifully balances the sweet fruit flavours.
