If you have never tasted a Blaufrankisch from Austria, you may be asking what the hell does it bring to the table. Well, plenty of spice and tannin on a medium bodied frame. These wines really shine with a little food next to them.
Pittnauer Klassic 2008
This wine has a lovely licorice element mixed with cherry juice and cinnamon spice. The tannins pull the wine long through my mouth but it just needs a bit of extra breadth for a higher score. That said this offers a huge amount of appeal for the price. It offers all that is good in Pinot with a little something extra.
