Rockford Rifle Range Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Robert O'Callaghan has been producing wines in the Barossa well before my time.  His approach is traditional yet his delivery of each of his wines was radical when he first started constructing these old vine beauties.  They tend to be in the lower alcohol range compared to the new boys in town.  As 08 was a continuation of the drought the Rockford's team has handled the conditions brilliantly.

The wine is just full bodied which for the vintage was a surprise.  Nothing is out of place with the lively tannins sitting firmly under the flavours of leafy blackcurrant, crunchy spice, chocolate and red capsicum.  The palate has very good length and even though it is definitely Barossa there are the Cabernet characters bursting from the scene.
