Wendouree Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Wendouree Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Pungent blackcurrant explodes from the bottle, which given the normal reserved nature of Wendouree I found this quite unexpected.  There are elements of leaf, coco-powder, eucalyptus and peppered red fruits entering the fray but you get the feeling that the handling of tannins and fruit is brilliant this year. This management is  due to the less than ideal weather conditions in Clare over the 2009 vintage.  It’s easy to produce good wine in good years but takes a master to do it in less than ideal years. Are these wines unique? Yes! And they are exquisite to say the least.
